Privacy Policy

Curbwatch is a Mac app for reviewing and organizing the parked-camera and dashcam footage your car records. It is built around a simple rule: your footage is yours, and it stays on your Mac.
This policy covers the Curbwatch app first, then the curbwatch.app website.
The Curbwatch app
What stays on your Mac
Everything the app works with stays local: your video files, the index it builds of your clips, thumbnails, the locations where events happened, and your keep/reject decisions. None of it is uploaded anywhere. There is no account, no sign-in, and no cloud component.
Optional anonymous usage statistics
Curbwatch can send anonymous usage statistics that help us understand which features matter and how the app performs. This is off by default and strictly opt-in: the app asks once, after your first review session, and the analytics library is not initialized at all unless you say yes. You can change your mind any time in Settings → Privacy. Turning it off stops collection immediately: anything already recorded is sent if possible, anything that couldn't be sent is deleted, and your anonymous ID is erased.
If you opt in, events are sent to PostHog, our analytics provider, under a randomly generated identifier that is not derived from you, your Mac, or your footage.
What's shared (only if you opt in):
- Which features you use, and how often
- How fast the app runs on your Mac
- Counts of damaged or encrypted incidents
- What triggered your incidents (a honk, motion, a manual save), and whether the clips were readable
- Your macOS version and your Curbwatch version
What's never shared:
- Your footage, or anything in it
- File names, folder names, or drive names
- Locations, or when clips were recorded
- Your camera set, your screen size, or your Mac's model, name, or location
- Any account or personal information
We also disable PostHog's server-side location lookup (GeoIP), and strip locale and timezone details from events before they are sent.
One honest footnote: the random identifier is technically an “online identifier” under laws like the GDPR, which is why we don't claim the app sends “no personal data.” But it is generated on your Mac, linked to nothing about you, and we could not connect it to you if we tried.
The curbwatch.app website
- Hosting. The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any host, Cloudflare processes visitor IP addresses in the course of serving requests and keeping the site online; see the Cloudflare privacy policy.
- Statistics. We use PostHog in cookieless mode to count page views: it sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, builds no visitor profile, and does no cross-site tracking. We see anonymous, aggregate page statistics only.
- Nothing else. No ads, no third-party trackers, no social widgets.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA, the UK, or another jurisdiction with data-protection rights, you have rights of access, correction, deletion, and objection. Because the statistics we hold are anonymous, we usually cannot link any of them to you — which also means the strongest right is the one built into the app: don't opt in, or opt out at any time in Settings → Privacy. We do not sell personal information.
Children
Curbwatch and this website are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. Meaningful changes to what the app collects will always be reflected in the app's own consent and settings screens as well.
